Solar energy is important to our school garden and our student's understanding of renewable energy sources. Without a standard (wired) power source, the garden relies on energy from the sun to run many important features. With help from the Laguna Beach High School Solar Club, we retrofitted the garden with solar panels (5, and counting) to provide power for a 21 station irrigation clock, a pond filter and pump, a pond waterfall, and future wi-fi. We store power through a Goal Zero battery system. Our portable solar panels allows students to see up close how solar power can be used to run a blender, charge a phone and more.
