Our 18’ geodesic dome greenhouse, designed by Growing Spaces®, includes a solar-powered central air system, above ground pond, passive solar design and automatic vents. The above ground pond has fish and water plants that keep the greenhouse humid, in addition to providing nutrient-rich water for planting. A local contractor built the planting tables, parent volunteers designed a misting system, and a middle school student maintains the pond. The Top of the World PTA applied to the Seeds of Change Grant Program. A public voting process declared the Giving Garden Food Program the second-place winner, securing a $10,000 grant that was matched by Top of the World PTA and LBUSD. The greenhouse is a space for students to understand how living organisms within an ecosystem interact. The greenhouse provides a space where students become involved in propagation, being able to seed, up-pot and transplant, increasing the yields in our garden, and also giving students a memorable, hands-on school experience.
